Australia beat India in the second T20I of the 3-match series at Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium on Tuesday to level the series 1-1. After restricting India for just 118, the visitors chased down the target in just 15.3 overs.
Moises Henriques (62*) and Travis Head (48*) added 109 runs for the third wicket to take the Aussies home after openers Aaron Finch and David Warner fell early.
India had won the first match of the series by 9 wickets in Ranchi.
Here is how it happened:
Australia win the 2nd T20 match by 8 wickets to level the series 1-1.
And the storm after the calm.
Kohli continues with Kuldeep and Henriques punishes him with two SIXes. Brings up his fifty too.
IND- 114/2 after 15 overs
The last two overs have calm but the batsmen seem to have no trouble.
IND- 97/2 after 14 overs
Another SIX off the Chahal over. The Indian tactics are not working. Kohli needs to do something here and quick.
IND- 88/2 after 12 overs
Both Henriques and Head have played India’s wrist spinner really well. Right now it looks like Australia are crusing to a comfortable win.
IND- 78/2 after 11 overs
Henriques and Head are taking this match away from India. Both score a boundary each off Hardik Pandya to get 11 off the over. Australia now require another 58 runs with 8 wickets and 66 balls remaining.
IND- 61/2 after 9 overs
Spin is here- in form of Kuldeep Yadav and Henriques greets him with a SIX.
It was too short and Henriques picks his spot to hit it to the square leg boundary.
Head then takes a FOUR off the last ball bring Australia’s 50.
IND- 50/2 after 8 overs
Another good over, this time by Hardik Pandya. Just 2 runs off it.
Meanwhile, it seems India missed a wicket in Bhuvi’s over. They had gone for a caught behind appeal but Umpire said no. Kohli wanted to review but Dhoni didn’t. Now it seems there was a nick.
IND- 36/2 after 7 overs
Henriques hits it outta here, into the stands. Short ball was pulled with immense power.
IND- 34/2 after 6 overs
What a good over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Henriques can’t seem to find a way.
AUS- 25/2 after 5 overs
FOUR and FOUR
Travis Head has silenced the Guwahati crowd with two beutiful shots off Jasprit Bumrah. However, the bowler did manage some equally impressive balls in-between. Good contest this…
AUS- 24/2 after 4 overs
It’s hit to Kohli again. Finch slaps the short ball straight to the fielder at cover. Bhuvi gets his first. Finch is gone for 8.
AUS- 13/2 after 2.5 overs
Bumrah draws the first blood.
Warner leading edge, caught at cover. Virat Kohli takes the catch. He looks in a zone- a very agrressive one.
AUS- 11/1 after 1.3 overs
6 runs off the first over. India will need early wickets here.
The Australian innings is about to start. Bhuvneshwar to bowl the first over. Aaron Finch at strike.
OUT. India are all out on the last ball. Australia need just 119 runs to win the second T20 match.
Bumrah is run out with 3 balls to go. The ball Kuldeep’s thigh and goes to the left of Paine who runs across and hits the stumps.
Lucky over for India. Couple of wides and an edge flying behind the keeper to the boundary give hosts 10 valuable runs.
IND- 114/8 after 19 overs
Pandya is gone too, hits it straight into the hands of long-off. He is dismissed with 15 balls to go and with him go chances of a decent Indian total.
IND- 104/8 after 18 overs
Finally, Pandya gets to it. The short one is dispatched over deep midwicket. And he seems to have woken up the crowd from a slumber.
100 up for India in 17th over.
IND- 101/7 after 17 overs
5 singles of the over. 24 balls to go, how many can India add to the total?
IND- 90/7 after 16 overs
The boundaries have been so rare this innings. However, Kuldeep swings at the full toss and a bottom edge takes it past the keeper. Kuldeep will take it.
IND- 85/7 after 15 overs
Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav are taking the singles. Pandya is India’s only hope here for a slightly respectable score and he need to stay till the end. He has moved to 10 off 11 balls.
IND- 77/7 after 14 overs
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was trying to be cheeky here. It was short ball but he doesn’t really have the pace for the upper cut. Straight to deep third man!
Can India get 100 at least?
IND- 70/7 after 12.4 overs
Zampa strikes again and Jadhav is going back.
He’s bowled him. Jadhav couldn’t read the googly.
OUT. MS DHONI is out STUMPED. India lose their 5th wicket.
Dhoni advances but the ball spins away and he can’t reach the ball. Paine does the rest.
Hardik Pandya is here.
IND- 61/5 after 10 overs
Jadhav brings up India’s 50 with a boundary. Dhoni is doing the usual Dhoni stuff- singles and doubles with some good running between the wickets.
Meanwhile Australia have put Stoinis and Zampa into the attack. 11 runs of the last 2 overs
IND- 54/4 after 9 overs
Jason Behrendorff finishes his spell here and what a spell it’s been: 4-0-21-4
IND- 43/4 after 7 overs
All is not lost for India yet- MS Dhoni is out in the middle. These are the kind of situations where he does his best. Kedar Jadhav is looking good at the other end, scoring boundaries with ease.
IND- 38/4 after 6 overs
WHAT’S HAPPENING INDIA!
Shikhar Dhawan is gone. India lose their 4th wicket.
It was a very good catch from David Warner. Dhawan chips it over the in-field, Warner pedals back a long way and judges it to perfection.
Wicket no. 4 for Behrendorff.
IND- 27/4 after 4.3 overs
What A Beauty!
Jadhav plays a great shot- stays on the backfoot and pulls a short of a length ball over mid-wicket.
IND- 27/3 after 4 overs
Jadhav is the new man in. Shikhar Dhawan is standing at the other end watching all the carnage. He had played just one ball so far.
IND- 16/3 after 3 overs
And another one bites the dust!
Manish Pandey has not done his chances of staying in the team any good here. Third wicket for the 2-match-old Jason Behrendorff.
It was good delivery and moved away just enough to find the outside edge. Paine holds on to a straightforward catch.
IND- 16/3 after 2.2 overs
The stadium is gone silent. They can’t believe what just happened. Manish Pandey is the new man in. India in a little spot of bother.
IND- 12/2 after 2 overs
Virat comes and Virat goes.
First it looks like an LBW appeal but in face the bowler has taken a catch of an edge.
IND- 8/2 after 1 over
Rohit Sharma is gone. He was looking good taking two beautiful boundaries off Behrendorff earlier. However, this one nipping in slightly and beats him to hit the pads. Plumb.
Sharma’s T20 woes continue.
IND- 8/1 after 0.4 over
HERE WE GO
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are in the middle. The Guwahati crowd is making a lot of noise. Jason Behrendorff will kick things off for the visitors.
India are playing the same eleven they fielded in Ranchi. Australia have brought in Marcus Stoinis in place of Dan Christian.
