From Sonam Kapoor to Janhvi Kapoor: Actresses make a powerful style statement in crayon hues

From Sonam Kapoor to Janhvi Kapoor: Actresses make a powerful style statement in crayon hues – The beginning of 2019 has seen crayola chic taking centre stage in B-Town. Crayon-inspired ensembles have brightened up the red carpet in the last couple of weeks. Fashionista Sonam K Ahuja recently sported a rani pink Anamika Khanna creation and Janhvi Kapoor was seen cutting a fine figure in a blue pantsuit. Miss Kapoor has embraced this trend with gusto, as she showed up at an event in a blue sari reminding cine-goers of the iconic look of her late mom Sridevi in the classic Mr India. At Deepika Padukone’s wedding reception, she stole the thunder in a bright yellow Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla sari proving yet again that she owns these pop tones like no one else.

The likes of Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Anushka Sharma and Esha Gupta have never shied away from sporting solid reds from head-to-toe. While mama-on-the-go Shilpa was seen in a bright red dress recently, which she accessorised with a black clutch, Anushka hit all the right style notes in a red twinset. Stylist Isha Bhansali sees it as a clever trick that makes one’s profile relatively taller. “I feel everyone should do it as it’s a rather flattering and forgiving trend,” she says.

Doesn’t break the flow of the eye

As there’s no second colour or embroidery, it’s a versatile trend. Stylist Eshaa Amiin observes, “You’re not breaking the flow of the eye and the mono hue adds more length, thereby making a person look slimmer. So, it helps you stand out. Ensure that you keep the rest of the look simple. At Deepika’s wedding, Janhvi wore a yellow sari, which was a great pick. All in all, it works beautifully on the Indian skin tone.”

A strong palette

Solid blues, powerful reds and saturated yellow on the red carpet as well as at the airport have been the sure-shot winning formula for our Bollywood beauties and their styling teams. Designer Maheka Mirpuri observes, “Monochrome crayons is a strong palette which pops. So, team it with neutral accessories.”
