Kangana Ranaut slams Bollywood’s big-wigs for their silence

Kangana Ranaut slams Bollywood’s big-wigs for their silence – The actress wants to know why people like Karan Johar, Shabana Azmi and the A-list stars have not uttered a single word about the #MeToo movement

Actress Kangana Ranaut, who recently came out with allegations of sexual harassment against filmmaker Vikas Bahl, wants to know why more Bollywood big-wigs aren’t talking about the #MeToo movement.

“Where are people like Karan Johar and Shabana Azmi? These people should also come out and speak. Karan Johar has views about gym looks and airport looks — he tweets about it ten times. What about this? This is their bread and butter. When the film industry is going through such an important shift, where are they?,” Kangana says.

Talking about how most A-list actresses are choosing to remain silent at a time like this, she adds, “Why are A-list actresses not sharing their stories? I am the only one. It’s not enough for just one person to talk.”

She also says that she thinks the women telling their stories need to be empowered. “I don’t want to discourage the lone fighters like me. There are some people who will slap their offenders right then and there, but there are also women who need to be empowered,” she says.

Many others have taken to social media to question celebrities such as Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi, who have always been very vocal about such issues.
Recently a Twitter user, Shilpa Rathnam (@shilparathnam), tweeted, “I approached @AzmiShabana at Shwetha Bachchan’s book launch and asked her if she had anything to say about the #MeToo movement. She looked through me and not just ignored me but pretended like I didn’t exist (sic).”

Renowned journalist, Manu Joseph tweeted, “Javed Akhtar, who educates people on “courage”, has been silent on the sexual misconduct of his friends in the film industry. Surely the simpleton knows that you need more courage to go against the elites of your own profession than to tweet moralistic rebukes to heads of state (sic).”
